The gift of creativity is given to those who are the medium. Art moves through us: it is given and it is passed on. Creativity is not something to be hoarded and held tightly in itchy palms. The joy of creativity is in the sharing. When you hold on to your creativity tightly, allowing fear to stifle you, it becomes as a leaky faucet in the middle of the night, dripping, dripping at the back of your mind and sometimes it drives you crazy enough that you wake up, you get out of bed where you mind has been sleeping, and you do something about it. Your frequent midnight trips to the room of the leaky faucet might produce interesting events, might awaken you in the middle of an interesting dream. But they are brief sojourns that end as quickly as they have begun as you drift back to sleep. Soon you may grow used to the drip; youll learn to ignore it. But it will still be there. Never forget that. It will come back, bother you again, but for now youve conquered your domain. If, on the other hand, you give away your gift like it is meant to given, if you give and you give for the sake of giving, not for the sake of getting something in return, you will reap great rewards. For the more that you give, the more than that leaky faucet annoying you in the middle of the night turns into a gushing roaring full blown stream that keeps you awake, floods your mind with idea after vision after melody after each tiny little piece of creativity that you put out there, more and more follow until you have that faucet opened all the way and it pours. |
